After having one of my sites banned from AdSense, I decided to test a number of alternate advertising programs. AdBrite (aff link) was the first program that I tried. AdBrite sign up is quick and painless. As soon as you are accepted to the program and place the code on your site, you can start displaying run on network ads. You can also enter tags to your site, which will help advertisers find your site. The run of network ads were acceptable, but not great. Ads relating to MySpace and educational sites performed best on my site.
I ran AdBrite ads for about a week, and my click through rate was close to ten times lower than my AdSense click through rate for the exact same space. Revenue per click was half of what I was earning with AdSense. Needless to say, I will continue my search for AdSense alternatives.
Despite my lack of success with AdBrite, I think that it could work very well for some larger sites. If advertisers are frequently asking for space on your site, AdBrite could be a hassle free way to manage your inventory. I would be very interested to hear about any AdBrite success stories out there.

[...] See the URL ads users have clicked on. This is HUGE. Knowing which ads visitors respond to allows you to better target the content of your site. For example, on my cliff notes site I thought that most of the Adsense clicks would be related to term papers. It turns out that most of the Adsense clicks I have seen so far are going to CampusI (an online bookstore), Blish.com, and Barronsmag.com. I am a bit confused about clicks going to Barron’s which is a financial publication, but I will continue to investigate this. AdBrite has this feature for their run of network ads, but I would kill for this feature to be built into Adsense and YPN. [...]
[...] Text Link Ads Review In addition to my experiments with AdBrite and YPN, I have been running a trial of Text Link Ads. Text Link Ads is different than Adsense. Instead of showing ads based on the content of your site, Text Link Ads brokers text ads on your site for a flat monthly rate. They serve the ads on your site without redirects, so the advertiers can receive some search engine optimization (SEO) benefit from the pagerank of the your site. After completing a brief application, my site was auto-approved by Text Link Ads. There are a few different ways to integrate the ad code onto your site. I chose to use the PHP method which required me to install an xml file on my server and include an xml parsing function in my code. Although posting the ads in more complicated than putting up Adsense, it only took me a few minutes to get everything up and running. The extra complexity is so that the ads can be shown without using redirects. [...]
Interesting article. I have joined the AdBrite market place some time ago. As I have recently noticed, they have removed my website PIXEL TEMPLATES (Category: Arts & Entertainment > Visual Arts) from their site directory. That doesnn’t make any sense, thus advertisers will never find me on their advertising platform. Unitl now, I have not received any response from AdBrite on this concern. Secondly, AdBrite does no longer display any ads on my website. This said, their slogan “Monetize your website with AdBrite†does not apply. I believe they fear I would get too many free leads from people browsing their site directory.
I have posted some comments directly on my website.

Hi, It was great to read about adbrite. I came to this site by google search and found this article quite helpful to learn about adbrite. I have just added a code from adbrite and waiting to see how will be the results. I have also applied for adsense but the process is tooooo slow from that end. Let’s see what happens. Thanks.
Sorry to hear your AdBrite clicks are so low.
I signed up for AdBrite many months ago and then got sidetracked onto something else and totally forgot about AdBrite, until was reading a few reviews this beautiful Sunday morning.
I think I will give it a go on one of my blogs and see what happens.
I too am experimenting with AdBrite. I am facing many problems especially setting the AdBrite pricing for Text Ads on my site – their interface and software does not work as intended and is very puzzling.

Hello!
Any luck finding a suitable alternative? I currently have adbrite and adsense, and I have also noticed adbrite not grabbing as much visitor attention. I’m assuming it’s because AdBrite is not context-sensitive, and also because it displays ads that we’ve all seen hundreds of times before.
Indeed,it is true, it’s always true. Comments ain’t even necessary.
Just a quick note…. I actually work at AdBrite. This is not my job to go look at blogs I was simply looking at adsense VS adbrite stuff and found this. I know this may sound redundant but WE know that we have things we can improve upon. We have actually launched a BETA with contextual matching of text ads and Pub pages… so we are working to improve relevance and performance for both Advertisers and Publishers. That being said can you name any other company that gives you as much transperancy into ads running on your sites or for advertisers which sites your ads have run on?
go to http://blog.adbrite.com/ feel free to comment believe it or not we know our advertisers and publishers is what keeps us in business and we WANT to provide a Best in Class solution. You want an alternative to AdSense we want to give you one!
They can all work, its just learning how to work them. I have two sites and one is an EXTREMELY NICHE market. The other is a travel site and I need both adsense and adbrite.
Unfortunately i don’t have a success story but i will tell you my own experience with them.
In short, Adbrite ripped me off!!! I decided to give them a try and advertise my website in their marketplace and after i signed up and created my campaign then a while later i was trying to do some edits and i paused it but even though i did they kept charging my credit card for over 3 days after and i e-mailed their support million of times to get a refund with no use
Moreover, the quality of traffic they bring is useless cheap junk traffic.
Whether you are going to advertise in their marketplace or monetize your website traffic..Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY FROM THEM!
Here’s another adbrite review, which is much more recent, having been written in 2008 – http://www.monetizationhub.com/adbrite-review/
The one you posted was very educational, thanks
